About the Role
Looking for your next big opportunity? We’ve got an exciting Design and Engineering Manager role just for you! In this position, you’ll get to lead our design and engineering team and drive the delivery of high‑quality, compliant, and commercially sound design solutions across multiple distribution projects, making a real impact.
Principal Accountabilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Design and Engineering Team to ensure safe, high‑quality outputs.
- Manage engineering resources across concurrent projects to meet programme and delivery targets.
- Improve design processes, standards, and best practices to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Act as the primary technical contact for clients and stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution.
- Oversee design compliance through structured reviews, audits, and governance.
- Provide technical oversight of design costs, estimates, and commercial risks.
- Collaborate with project, construction, supplier, and subcontractor teams to ensure design alignment with programme, constructability, and cost objectives.
- Lead technical and commercial design reviews to meet project goals and budgets.
- Drive innovation through new tools, technologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify and manage design‑related risks with effective mitigation strategies.
- Report on design performance, resource utilisation, risks, and KPIs to senior leadership.
- Support development of junior and graduate engineers through mentoring and training.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Electrical Engineering honours degree with 5+ years’ design experience in electricity distribution.
- Strong expertise in high‑voltage installations, power infrastructure design, and industry standards.
- Proven ability to review and approve technical designs for safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience working with Fixed Price, Lump Sum, Schedule of Rates, and Design & Build contracts.
- Skilled in interpreting Design & Build, Performance, and Standard Specifications.
- Demonstrated leadership in mentoring and developing engineering teams.
- Proficient in cost estimation, pricing reviews, and budget management.
- Strong understanding of risk management and mitigation in design environments.
- Track record of driving innovation and adopting new design technologies and methodologies.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
